Charles Page Mackey Jr., 70, known affectionately as Charlie, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024 in Raleigh, NC at UNC Rex Hospital. Born on August 21, 1953 in Staunton, VA, Charlie was the second of four children to Susan Cline Mackey and Charles Page Mackey Sr.

He graduated from Stuarts Draft High School in 1971 and remained in the Shenandoah Valley area where he was employed by Mastic Corporation starting his career as a packer on the plant floor and progressing to the role of plant supervisor. While living in the area, he was known as a local racquetball enthusiast and won several championships and tournaments. During his employment at Mastic, he met Jacqueline (Jackie) Hope Allen who became his wife of thirty-two years.

In 1989, Charlie accepted a position as Production Manager at Ply Gem (formerly Variform) in Martinsburg, WV. After that location closed, he moved to the Raleigh area in 2008 to oversee another JM Eagle facility and resided there until his passing. He remained with JM Eagle for fifteen years and oversaw the operations of multiple plants across the country as a Senior Plant Manager. He took great pride in his achievements as a manager/consultant and was held in high esteem by his colleagues for his diligence, persistence, and meticulous approach to establishing order and maintaining and optimizing Standard Operating Procedures.

Charlie suffered a major stroke on August 12, 2023 and thereafter faced many ongoing health challenges. His wife Jackie and son Andrew were by his side as his caregivers throughout this difficult time. Charlie was preceded in death by his grandmother and grandfather Mackey and Cline, his father and mother, an uncle and a cousin. Charlie is survived by his wife, Jackie and their son Andrew Dillon Mackey of Youngsville, NC; another son, Kyle Page Gentry of Charlottesville, VA; a sister, Nancy Mackey Austin and her husband Mike, of Fuquay Varina, NC; a brother, Tommy Mackey and his wife Iris of Irish Creek, VA; a brother David Mackey and his wife Yawn of WA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, one granddaughter Piper Hope Gentry of Charlottesville, VA; his best friend since childhood, Gary Huff and his wife Karen of GA; and many friends from all over the country. Jeff Armstrong

I was lucky enough to have work with Charlie while I was a Plant Manager for JM Eagle. Although we were separated by miles, we conversed weekly. Even after I left the company, Charlie and I stayed in touch, and our conversations were always filled with laughter. Charlie was definitely one-of-a kind. GOD absolutely broke the mold after Charlie. Jackie, Karla and I wish you and your family the very best, and we send our deepest condolences at this painful time. You were his world, and there was never a time that Charlie and I didn’t speak about you and Karla. You both will forever hold a special place in our hearts. We pray you all find the strength to smile and laugh again as you reflect on the memories, as I’m sure there are many. Love, Jeff and Karla Armstrong
