Delano Acord

November 21, 1938 – May 1, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Delano "Dean" Cole Acord announces his passing on Monday, May 1, 2023 at the age of 84. He was a much loved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, and best friend of 60 years, Wilma Murphy Acord; his children, Tim (Teresa) Acord of Franklinton, NC, Gary (Kim) Acord of Rolesville, NC, Darrell (Lori) Acord of Franklinton, NC, and Daughter-in-law Debbie Acord of Rolesville, NC; one sister, Irene Acord Reed of Berea, KY; special family friend Tammy Newsome of Franklinton,NC; along with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dean was proceeded in death by his parents; 4 bothers; 5 sisters; and one son, Steven Allan Acord.

Born in Wyoming County, WV, Dean was always a ray of sunshine and never met a stranger. He devoted a great portion of his life to helping others and took great pride in the way he lived. Dean proudly served his country in the Air Force and retired from the lumber industry in 2008. He was an amazing friend and was always happy to lend a hand and help out in any way he could.

Dean enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and spending time outdoors. His most cherished times were spent with those he loved and he truly enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. But as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.

At Dean's request, no services will be held.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to First Cremation Society of Louisburg.

Delano was a good friend during our 4 years together at Oceana High School 195256.

Of all the Acord siblings, Dean and his late sister Carrie were the most dear to our family. During our childhood, we enjoyed visiting with them at the head of the holler where special memories were made. As I sit here writing this tribute to Dean, the entire Acord family members pass through my mind. Some may never understand the bondlove between these two families, but we do. RIP Dean
