Raleigh - Elsie Cruickshanks (nee Ross) passed away on March 10, 2023, at the grand age of 101 years and 3 months. At her passing, she was surrounded by her loving sons and family. Elsie was born in the City of Glasgow, Scotland on December 11, 1921, the fourth child of Neil and Sarah Ross. She, along with her parents, siblings, and many other Scots survived the bombings and desperations of World War II.
She met her husband, the love of her life, George H. Cruickshanks, near the end of the war. Elsie and George, along with their two sons, emigrated to the United States of America shortly after the war, committed to providing the American Dream to their children, and enjoying the fruits of their hard work and success. They raised their family in the Village of Islip, NY and had a long retirement in Ormond Beach, FL. Elsie lived out her recent years in the Raleigh, NC area, with family and numerous friends that loved her very dearly.
Elsie's death was preceded by that of her beloved husband George. She is survived by her two sons, Russell (Elizabeth) and Douglas (Susan), grandchildren Ian (Laura), Sarah (Sarah), Heather (Kelder) and great grandchildren Colby and Alice.
Elsie was a true Scot and kept the love of her nation of birth deep in her heart. We are very saddened by her passing but have the enduring faith in the promises of God and his Son Jesus Christ, that she is with the eternal living God and his Son now, and for all time.
Elsie's cremation has taken place and she will be laid to rest alongside her husband in Daytona Beach, Florida.
"Here's tae ye, Wha's like ye? Very few, and they're a' dead."
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army in Elsie's name. Thank you to all who knew her and loved her.

Q How did you meet Elsie A Elsie was my mother in law when I was married to her son Russ, and I gave her her first grandchild Ian. She was a very special lady and much loved. She had a great Scottish accent and sense of humor. She was a good friend and in-law to my late mother Ann Messinger. I have many fond memories of those two laughing and having fun together when Ian was a young child. Elsie and George visited Seattle many times where we lived and where Ian grew up. Elsie and I have kept in touch over the years and I will miss her very much.
