Janice Ellis

September 22, 1935 – January 12, 2023

Janice Sink Ellis went home on January 12, 2023, after a few years of declining health. She was born on September 22, 1935, to Stamey E. and Dixie J. Sink in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

Janice graduated from Grey High School after marrying Charlie W. Ellis and made her home in Lewisville, North Carolina. In the late 60's she worked at the Town Steakhouse at Thruway Shopping Center to raise and support her three children while going through a tough and abusive divorce. She then went on to work with Winston Salem/Forsyth County School System as the cafeteria manager at Kernersville Elementary, Kernersville Junior High, and East Forsyth Senior High Schools. In 1974, she left the school system and went into the floral business with her close friend Allen West opening several successful flower shops in the Winston Salem area. She later left Lewisville, NC and relocated to Rockford, NC with her estranged son Mark W. Ellis before finally landing in Creedmoor, NC where she was known for her cake baking. She took first and second place numerous times in the City of Creedmoor 4th of July Picnic and Cake Baking Contest with her "secret ingredient" carrot cake and others. Until the last few years she had always given friends and family fresh baked cakes at Christmas.

She is preceded in death by her oldest son, Charles W. Ellis.

Janice is survived by her daughter, Jane Ellis Harris (Lynwood Hicks) of Creedmoor; grandchildren, Matthew Ellis of Winston Salem, and Mary E. Harris of Durham; and great grandchildren Emani and Veda Harris of Creedmoor.

Funeral arrangements have been privately handled by First Cremation Society of Louisburg. Memories and condolences may be directed to Jane Ellis Harris 2647 Bennett Rd. Creedmoor, NC 27522.
