Judith Pate

August 13, 1938 – June 22, 2026

Raleigh , NC

Judith H. Pate passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026. Born in Kannapolis, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Effie Beatrice Hewett Hall and Jasper Lee Hall.

Judith was married to Rayford Lyles Pate for 32 years before their divorce. Together they raised two daughters, Cheryl Pate Meier and Elizabeth Pate Readmond.

Over the course of Judith’s life she lived in many places. Of all the places she lived, for 13 years, Virginia Beach held a special place as she spent countless summer days enjoying the beach. Following her divorce, Judith moved to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, where she became an established member of the community.

A devoted member of Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Judith spent many hours volunteering for various committees including knitting hats for the newborns and scarves for the Maritime Marines. She was also actively involved with the Tar River Orchestra and Chorus, serving as its president and to share the love for music in the community.

Judith later spent several years living in Florida, where she continued to enjoy the beach. While living in Rocky Mount and Florida, she traveled extensively throughout Europe and along the East Coast, always seeking new experiences and adventures. Eventually, she returned to Raleigh, North Carolina. Though her address changed over the years, her love for the ocean never faded, and she found comfort and joy in the sound of the waves.

She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Meier and Elizabeth Readmond (Rob); her

grandchildren, Matthew Meier (Kelsey), Marc Meier (Samantha), Shelby Meier, Bryce

Readmond (Carly), and Marissa Gudlaugsson (Matt); and her five great-grandchildren, Colby Meier, Carter Meier, Ella Meier, Caroline Readmond, and Laine Readmond.

At a later time, her ashes will be spread on the coast of North Carolina. Memorials can be made to Transitions Life Care of Raleigh, NC.
