Linda Rae Greer

June 2, 1951 – December 14, 2025

Youngsville, NC

With heavy hearts we share the unexpected passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother Linda Rae Greer on December 14, 2025 in Raleigh, NC.

Linda was born on June 2, 1951 to Dolores and Raymond Birst in Bismarck, ND. She graduated from Bismarck High School. She worked in the Bismarck-Mandan area where she met her future husband Merle Greer, married in 1978 and started their 47 years together. Linda loved people and with her very outgoing cheerful personality made friends everywhere she was present. A bundle of happiness and energy, she was always busy working and taking care of her family. She loved cooking, baking, trying new dishes and entertaining house guests. Her second passion was crafts and she crocheted beautiful sweaters and afghan blankets for just about everyone in the family chain. She was tremendously engaged with her family and friends with all sorts of things. Linda was also an avid Green Bay Packers football fan.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, step-sister, aunt and friend. Linda had a way of making people laugh, feel welcome and special. Her humor and cheery nature were contagious and her smile and laugh will never be forgotten.

She leaves in this world her husband Merle Greer, Sons Erick Greer and Jan Shipe (Diane Schaub), Daughter Bethany Thompson (Bobby), Grandson Jamison Greer, Sisters Judy Jose (Tim), Jacalyn Wolfe, Brothers Jeffrey and Richard Birst, Step-sister Deb Fode, Step-brother Jeff Lawler,

Preceded in death by her Mother, Dolores Birst, Father, Raymond Birst, Step-Mom MaryJo Birst, Grandparents, and Grandson Brody Shipe.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held in early 2026. Notifications will be sent once a place, date and time is established.

It was such an honor and pleasure getting to know Linda (and family) over the years, doing her hair. She was always a joy to talk to and so generous, even giving me gifts when I had my son. He still loves his homemade blanket! Linda will be greatly missed here at the studio. Praying for peace and comfort for the Greer family. ♥️

I only met Linda few times, but every time she was engaging, warm and friendly.

The Greers had been such a pillar in our lives. Linda was such joy to chat with and visit. I had the pleasures of watching their grandson and the really special part was that she was able to watch them play right outside her window as I was their neighbor. Linda will be missed, her sweet family is in our prayers. We love the Greers. -the Smiths
